Retrofit design
Wraps around existing street assets with minimal disruption.
Cleaner air, built into everyday streets
OKLUS is developing retrofit environmental infrastructure for carefully governed council pilots. Environmental outcomes, including any contribution to cleaner air, will be tested, measured and reported transparently before wider performance claims are made.
ONE PLATFORM. TWO DEPLOYMENT ROUTES.
The same serviceable OKLUS platform can be explored on suitable existing streets or coordinated earlier within new developments. Each route remains project-specific, evidence-led and subject to technical review.

Retrofit suitable street-light columns and evaluate environmental and operational value through a carefully governed pilot.

Wraps around existing street assets with minimal disruption.
Structured trials built around the decision the route needs to inform.
Designed around sightlines, access, maintenance and review.
Visible greening, education and local engagement.
Built with circular thinking and responsible recovery in mind.
Designed around access, replacement planning and practical site review.
The OKLUS Retrofit Unit
The OKLUS Retrofit Unit is being developed around suitable existing street-light columns. It combines a serviceable physical unit, replaceable living media, planned maintenance and structured pilot learning.
Future OKLUS research could explore monitored habitat modules for locally identified pollinators and other suitable wildlife, subject to ecological review and pilot validation.

FROM CONCEPT TOWARDS PILOT
Illustrative route concepts
OKLUS route concepts can help councils explore school approaches, high streets, bus corridors, parks and riverside paths without treating every location as suitable by default.

Concept-led route planning for schools, streets, parks, bus corridors and community paths.

Visible environmental infrastructure where everyday movement is already concentrated.

Research-led habitat, planting and ecological connectivity for selected suitable routes.
Explore biodiversity
Responsible material choices and circular recovery thinking supported by Recov.

A careful route to observations, evaluation notes and better-informed public-realm decisions.

Inspection, servicing and replacement responsibilities considered before installation.
Urban biodiversity infrastructure
Selected OKLUS installations could explore purpose-designed habitat features for urban pollinators and beneficial invertebrates. The research question is whether suitable existing street infrastructure can create small biodiversity stepping stones between parks, verges, waterways, gardens and other pockets of urban nature.

Maintenance and aftercare
Future pilots should include agreed responsibilities, inspection records, issue reporting and a clear route to pause, adapt, relocate or remove a unit if required. Perrings is being developed as OKLUS’ preferred installation and aftercare support partner.

OUR MISSION
Our long-term ambition is to see suitable OKLUS installations supporting streets outside schools and hospitals around the world, while giving the next generation access to the environmental data and ecological learning those installations create.
This is a direction for the company, not a claim that every location is suitable or that environmental outcomes are already proven. Engineering, governed pilots and independent evidence come first.
